New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Accused of Sexual Assault

Lindsey Boylan, a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, says in a post on Medium.com that the governor sexually assaulted her while she worked with him.

According to the New York Times, in the personal essay, Boylan says Cuomo once kissed her in 2018 in his office without her permission.

“As I got up to leave and walk toward an open door, he stepped in front of me and kissed me on the lips,” she said. “I was in shock, but I kept walking.”

According to the governor’s public schedule database, Cuomo and Boylan met privately at least four times in 2018 — one of those meetings was in his office in New York.

Cuomo’s office denies the claims.

“Ms. Boylan’s claims of inappropriate behavior are quite simply false,” said Caitlin Girouard, the governor’s press secretary.

Boylan also said that she was once invited to play strip poker on a government airplane with Cuomo and that she received an email once from another aide who told her the governor said she was a “better looking sister” of another woman. Boylan says Cuomo then began calling her by that name, which she called “degrading.”

Boylan first accused the governor of sexual harassment in December, saying on Twitter that she was “sexually harassed” for years.”

“Many saw it, and watched,” she said.

Cuomo later spoke at a news conference in December, saying the claims were not true.

“Look, I fought for and I believe a woman has the right to come forward and express her opinion and express issues and concerns that she has,” Cuomo said. “But it’s just not true.”

In the essay, Boylan wrote the Cuomo would go “out of his way to touch me on my lower back, arms and legs.”

In 2016, she says the governor invited her to his office where he showed her a cigar box that President Bill Clinton had given to Cuomo when he served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

“The two-decade-old reference to President Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky was not lost on me,” she said.
