Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Responds after Flooding Ravages Kentucky
As heavy rainfall hit Kentucky, the Kentucky River began to overflow, flooding many communities.
The historic rainfall hit Kentucky over the weekend and is reportedly still causing flooding in the region. According to Fox News, the rain should clear out by Wednesday.
As a response, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has called a state of emergency for 13 counties on Sunday, March 14. The rainfall also caused mudslides and caused people to require water rescue.
After touring the affected regions, Beshear reportedly asserted that this was the “worst flash-flooding that I’ve seen in my lifetime.”
As a response, The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team traveled to the area to help out. The Rapid Response Team consists of crisis-trained chaplains that, according to the website “provide emotional and spiritual care to those affected by man-made or natural disasters.”
According to the Rapid Response Team’s Director, Jack Munday, Samaritan’s Purse also provided support.
In a statement posted on the Billy Graham website, Munday said, “Many homes were flooded, and the need is great for both Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains to offer help and support. Both ministries, along with equipment, will be there beginning Thursday to offer hope and comfort to many families who have been impacted by the floods.”
Samaritan’s Purse will be helping by providing relief supplies and equipment to affected areas. Volunteer teams working for Samaritan’s Purse are also working to remove waterlogged walls and flooring and clear homes of debris and ruined belongings. Assessment teams also coordinated with churches to determine how best to disperse resources and groups. The volunteer team base of operations is located at Providence Pentecostal Church, 3928 Hwy 15 South in Jackson, Kentucky.
According to the Billy Graham website, multiple locals expressed to local news outlets that they had never experienced flooding like this before.
