Netflix Animated Series Criticizes NRA by Portraying Jesus as Gun, Sex-Obsessed
A cartoon series took shots at the National Rifle Association (NRA) and gun rights in a controversial video featuring Jesus Christ.
According to Newsbusters, the video was part of the fourth episode of the Netflix animated sitcom Paradise PD. It’sthird season was released on March 12.
The episode, titled “Trigger Warning” highlights how the city of Paradise was spiraling out of control with its gun problem.
One of the show’s characters, Officer Kevin Crawford, is impacted by an anti-gun video made by filmmaker and activist Michael Moore.
After watching the video, Crawford asserts to his father, Police Chief Randall Crawford, that “there’s no reason why we can’t have sensible gun control.”
Another officer, however, Gina Crawford, tells Kevin to “give it a rest” saying that she was sick of “you liberals acting like guns are the only dangerous thing in society.”
“Mayonnaise kills people,” she added.
Kevin, along with his mother, Karen Crawford, who’s also the mayor of Paradise, concurs with her son’s concern and that she must do something about it. Her police chief husband, however, decides to take them on a tour of the NRA before she turns Paradise into “Communist Canada”.
A caricatured president of the NRA, whose name features the F word, gives Kevin and his mom a tour of the headquarters, which features a gun pit with a dead kid buried inside.
Meanwhile, a corpse of the late actor and former real-life NRA president Charles Heston being used as a statue is also featured with the inscription “Pry this gun from my cold, dead hands and win a Republican Senate seat.”
The most offensive portion of the episode, however, is when the NRA head shows both characters a disturbing video that “imagines a world if Jesus has guns.”
During the crucifixion, Jesus is seen supernaturally conjuring up two machine guns and killing the Roman soldiers nearby in a bloody scene as he comes down from the cross.
Then two women stand beside Christ as they start kissing and drop to the ground to have sex.
Paradise PD was created by Comedy Central’s Waco O’Guin and Roger Black.
