Russian Leader Calls on Biden to Apologize for Calling Putin a ‘Killer’
Kremlin officials and senior members of Russia’s parliament have decried Biden’s statements where he called Vladimir Putin a “killer” and asserted that he has “no soul.”
Kremlin officials said the responses were reminiscent of a hysterical man with dementia, and have withdrawn their ambassador to the U.S. as a response.
President Putin retorted that it “takes one to know one” and wished Biden “good health,” according to The Guardian.
Fox News reports that the situation started when Biden was egged on by ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos in a question-and-answer session.
During the interview, Stephanopoulos pointed to a report released earlier this week by the Director of National Intelligence claiming that there was “unprecedented” interference from the Russians in the election. Stephanopoulos then asked, “So what price must he [Vladimir Putin] pay?”
President Biden responded noting that he has spoken to the Russian leader and asserted that he will pay a price for the alleged interference.
Stephanopoulos followed up by stating, “You said you know he doesn’t have a soul.”
Biden confirmed that he said directly to Putin that he looked in his eyes and didn’t think he had a soul. Putin reportedly responded to Biden’s comment by saying, “We understand each other.”
Stephanopoulos followed up by asking the President if, since he knows Putin, he thought we was a killer. Biden simply replied, “Yes I do,” before adding that the American people will soon see the price he will pay for his actions.
Putin reportedly replied to the interview saying of Biden, “it takes one to know one.”
According to Reuters, he added, “I remember in my childhood, when we argued in the courtyard with each other we used to say: it takes one to know one. And that’s not a coincidence, not just a children’s saying or joke. The psychological meaning here is very deep. We always see our own traits in other people and think they are like how we really are.”
The New York Post reports that Putin also wished Biden “good health,” saying “As [Biden] said, we know each other personally. What would I reply to him? I would say: I wish you health. I wish you health. I say that without any irony or joke.”
