Friends and family of the late evangelist Luis Palau paid their respects on Saturday at his memorial service.
The evangelist died earlier this month after a three-year-long battle with lung cancer. Evangelists such as Franklin Graham took to social media to make public statements about Palau’s passing. The memorial service was live-streamed on Palau’s website and Facebook page.

According to The Christian Post, The nearly 1 hour and 45-minute long memorial service was attended by Rich McKinley of Imago Dei Community in Portland, Oregon.
McKinley said of Palau that he “took holiness very seriously,” noting that Palau didn’t just talk about holiness but really tried to live a holy life himself. He added that Palau told him that in his last days, he was going to use his cancer to preach about heaven. McKinley said Palau knew he was going “to be with the Lord in Heaven.”
Andrew Palau, the son of the late evangelist, said of his dad that he only wanted his family to “point to Jesus.” He further shared that his father didn’t want the memorial service to be “a big affair.” To which he replied, “We’ll disobey him for one last time.”
Andrew also shared his father’s favorite verse, John 10:10, which reads, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Palau’s daughter-in-law also spoke kindly of him. She shared that Palau taught her to “never move past” the Gospel and to always share it. The evangelist also told her to “dream big.”
Palau’s family held an evangelistic festival where reportedly more than 2,000 gave their lives to Christ after Andrew preached a sermon. The festival included music from multiple popular Christian artists. Some of the artists, according to CBN News, were: Mac Powell, Mandisa, Social Club Misfits, Casting Crowns, Zach Williams, and Andy Mineo. Additionally, illusionist John Michael Hilton performed. The event took place in Brevard County, Florida and included a Family Fun Stage, skateboard and BMX trick shows, and even freestyle motocross shows.
Palau’s tombstone will reportedly read “Here lies Luis Palau. He wasn’t perfect, but he sure loved Jesus.”
