Nebraska Gov. Warns Parents that Proposed Sex Ed. Curriculum Will Teach LGBT Ideology to K-12 Students
Nebraska’s governor is calling on parents to speak out against the proposed education curriculum featuring LGBTQ+ ideology for children by the state’s department of education.
According to The Christian Post, a draft curriculum framework, titled Nebraska Health Education Standards, was revealed earlier this month and offers various topics divided into eight categories for K-12 students.
The one category that has received criticism from Nebraska Gov. Peter Ricketts among other conservatives is the category “Human Growth & Development,” which teaches children LGBTQ ideology such as sexual orientation and gender identity.
“Students will recognize characteristics relating to identity, sexuality and healthy relationships and identify the fundamental components of sexual health,” the curriculum states. “It is recommended that comprehensive human growth and development education begins in kindergarten and occurs sequentially for all students, grades K-12.”
“Human growth and development programs that are developmentally, culturally, age-appropriate, medically accurate, and unbiased have been proven to prevent or reduce risky behaviors.”
In response to the controversial program, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts urged parents to share their concerns in an effort to “scrap the proposed sex education topics” from the draft of the health standards curriculum.
“I am calling on the Nebraska Department of Education to scrap the proposed sex education topics that are included in their draft health standards,” Ricketts said in a statement. “The new standards from the department would teach not only young children age-inappropriate content starting in kindergarten, but also inject non-scientific, political ideas into curriculum standards.
He noted that the sex education standards “represent a significant shift in approach to health education, and many of the new themes are sensitive topics that should be addressed by parents at home and not by schools.”
“The draft standards were developed with the help of political activists and without the input of key mainstream organizations. I am urging Nebraska parents to speak up now, and to share their reaction with the department, so it can be made a part of the formal record to the full board,” Ricketts concluded.
