4 Killed, Including a Child, in California Office Building Shooting

A shooting in a Southern California office in the city of Orange resulted in at least four deaths and one wounded, the Associated Press reports.

Among those dead is a child. The gunman was also injured. The shots happened around 5:30 PM on Wednesday. Police entered the building, and it is speculated that the officers and shooter may have had a shootout. It is unclear how the shooter was injured. Police are not sure what the motivations were behind the shooting.

According to a witness who lives in an apartment across the street from the office building, there were at least seven shots. He told KTLA that he heard “seven to 10 gunshots within a couple of seconds. It’s terrifying.”

Another witness, the brother of someone who works in the business building, gathered with others to warn family and friends about the event and see if anyone they knew was hurt. The brother said, “I’m just trying to find out his well-being. He’s not answering his phone, neither’s my niece. I’m pretty scared and worried. I wish I knew more …  right now, I’m just praying really hard.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom took to Twitter to release a statement following the attack. “Horrifying and heartbreaking. Our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight,” he wrote on Twitter.

Additionally, Orange County Representative Katie Porter also took to Twitter to send her condolences and tell the families of the people involved that she will be monitoring the situation. She wrote, “I’m deeply saddened by reports of a mass shooting in Orange County, and I’m continuing to keep victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more. My team and I will continue to monitor the situation closely.”

State Senator Tom Umberg also took to Twitter to comment on the situation and offered his condolences. He also noted that he is monitoring the situation.

He wrote, “Robin and I are devastated to hear about the shooting in Orange. My staff and I will be monitoring the situation as new information becomes available.”
