Hundreds Attend Prayer Vigil for Rapper DMX after He Is Placed on Life Support
Hundreds of DMX supporters flooded New York’s White Plains Hospital’s parking lot to pray for him as he went on life support.
American rapper DMX, known by his real name Earl Simmons, suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the hospital last Friday. Some outlets have alleged it is due to a possible drug overdose, though the allegations have not been confirmed.
Sirius XM’s The Heat tweeted a video of the event, stating, “A prayer vigil outside the hospital where #DMX currently is. #PrayersForDMX #DMX.” His hospital visit comes more than a year after he said he was canceling his tours to re-enter drug rehab.

His Instagram account told supporters one year ago, “In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility. He apologizes for his canceled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support.” The post received more than 230,000 likes and comments have been coming in as more people learned of his heart attack and being put on life support.
DMX has become more outspoken about his faith during COVID-19. He even hosted a bible study on Instagram Live.
Even before the Bible study, however, DMX has been vocal about his faith. According to Faithwire, “In 2012, the multi-award-winning artist announced that he intended on entering the ministry. He soon became a transitional deacon in the Christian Church and hopes to progress into a full-time pastor position at some stage.”
As of Sunday, DMX was still in a coma and breathing.
The Associated Press obtained a statement from the family’s publicist that stated, “On Friday night, April 2nd, 2021, our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains (NY) Hospital, facing serious health issues. We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers, as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges.”
