Pastor Voddie Baucham Is Recovering Well following Quadruple Bypass Surgery
Popular preacher Voddie Baucham is currently recovering from quadruple bypass surgery after enduring a near-fatal battle with heart failure in recent months.
Baucham, who serves as dean of theology at African Christian University in Zambia, posted an update last month following a “very successful heart surgery”. In the update, he shared that there was no need for a heart transplant.
However, a Baucham spokesperson told The Christian Post last Friday that doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Florida, where Baucham was being treated, had “discovered another blockage in Voddie’s heart” and that another surgery was needed.
“It was determined that he must have another procedure this weekend to deal with the blockage,” the spokesperson said. “Please pray for Voddie and his doctors as he undergoes this new procedure. We expect to have the next update on his condition early next week.”
Prior to the announcement, Baucham was set to conduct a two-week tour to promote his newly released book, Fault Lines: The Social Justice Movement and Evangelicalism’s Looming Catastrophe, which has since been canceled.
On Tuesday, Tom Ascol, the Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida and the President of Founder’s Ministries, posted an update after Baucham had quadruple bypass surgery on Monday.
“Quick Update on @VoddieBaucham He came through quad bypass surgery well late last night; had a good night; has been awake & responsive,” Ascol tweeted. “Next 24-36 hours are crucial. Thank you for praying. He has a long road of recovery ahead. Praise God for His mercies on display!”

In a follow-up post on Thursday, Ascol announced that Baucham was released from the ICU and will begin some physical therapy.
“He is stable & beginning some mild PT,” he wrote. “Please pray for his continued improvement, that his pain would diminish, & that the Lord would continue to strengthen & encourage his wife and children.”

Throughout Baucham’s health battle, Ascol set up a GoFundMe account to cover the medical expenses. The fundraiser has since raised over $1.4 million.
