10 New Faith Leaders Join Planned Parenthood’s Clergy Advocacy Board
On Wednesday, Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, announced that a new group of faith leaders will be joining its Clergy Advocacy Board (CAB).
About 10 clergy members across the U.S. will be a part of the abortion giant’s CAB, including Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), the pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, who has argued that reproductive rights are a matter of faith.
In a statement, Planned Parenthood President & CEO Alexis McGill Johnson called the CAB a “crucial part” of the organization’s mission “to promote, protect, and expand access to health care for all.”
“I am excited to welcome these new members to the CAB, and grateful for their incredible leadership and dedication to this work,” she said. “Planned Parenthood is proud to have religious leaders of all faiths standing with us in this fight.”
The Reverend Burl Salmon, Chair of the CAB, also issued a statement welcoming the new board members.
“A strong majority of people in the U.S. support access to safe, legal abortions and other sexual and reproductive health care, and a multitude of faith communities stand with them,” Salmon said. “These advocates know that caring about the health and rights of their communities is essential, and they stand with those across the country fighting for reproductive freedom.
“With our new members, we are energized and eager to carry our work forward on behalf of all people.”
One of the new members of the board, Rev. Katey Zeh of North Carolina, told Religion News Service that the decision to join was a “no-brainer” because of her “call to ministry within a Planned Parenthood.”
Zeh explained that she first felt the call during her time as an “abortion doula” at a Planned Parenthood while in seminary. Zeh’s role would involve providing support and holding the hands of women who were undergoing abortions.
“There are so few of us who are people of faith who are willing to be bold and audacious about supporting reproductive freedom because of our faith,” she said.
In a post on Twitter, Zeh said she was honored to be part of the Planned Parenthood board, Faithwire reports.
Honored to be part of the @PPFA Clergy Advocacy Board and to have had the opportunity to talk with @jackmjenkins about my call to ministry within the walls of an abortion clinic. (@RCRChoice) https://t.co/xVOtGpxroX
