The power of civic solidarity after tragedy to bring us together – opinion
One week ago we all awoke together to a shared tragedy. And what a tragedy it was. The magnitude of the catastrophe was reflected in the media reports, the news on television and the unbearable uncertainty that the families of the dead and wounded experienced. I repeatedly forwarded inquiries regarding missing persons to Poriya Hospital, where I recently completed my role as director general of the Friends of Poriya Hospital Association prior to entering the Knesset. The final death toll stood at 45. The medical staff – first responders, rescue forces, nurses, doctors, Arabs and Jews alike – worked tirelessly and heroically to ensure that number did not climb any higher.
