Jacksonville Jaguars Expected to Sign Tim Tebow to 1-Year Contract
The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to sign former NFL quarterback and retired minor league baseball player Tim Tebow to a one-year contract.
According to ESPN, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner is expected to be offered a one-year contract to play tight end for the Jaguars.
Tebow, 33, previously played quarterback in his three-season NFL career. ESPN reports that Tebow, who has never played tight end before, was “adamant” about remaining a quarterback during his previous NFL stint. Some are speculating that Tebow may have changed his mind, in part, because the head coach for the Jaguars, Urban Meyer, was formerly Tebow’s coach at the University of Florida.
There is no indication as to how much playtime Tebow will get, if any, as the Jaguars already have five other tight ends on their roster.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, no deal between Tebow and the Jaguars has been signed yet, but it is expected to go through in the next several weeks.
“The Jaguars are planning to sign QB-turned-TE Tim Tebow to a 1-year deal, per me and Tom Pelissero, a deal that could be official in the next week or so. Nothing done yet. But he’ll have a chance to make the team to reunite with his mentor and college head coach Urban Meyer,” Rapoport shared on Twitter.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, just before the start of the NFL draft, Rapoport confirmed that Tebow had asked to work out with the Jaguars and later requested a tryout.
This was the first time Tebow had entered the professional football arena since his brief stint with the New York Jets in 2012.
During his previous NFL stint, Tebow played quarterback for two seasons with the Denver Broncos and one with the New York Jets. He also briefly played for the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.
ESPN reports that Tebow had his best season in 2011, when he “played in 14 games, going 7-4 in 11 starts to lead the Broncos to the playoffs.” That season he also rushed for 660 yards.
Following his short football career, Tebow took a swing at pursuing a professional baseball career. Tebow played minor league baseball for the New York Mets organization from 2016 to 2021. He was an outfielder.
According to ESPN, he made it as high as Triple-A baseball before announcing his retirement in February 2021.
Tebow has also made something of a name for himself as a sports commentator.
