Reporter Julio Rosas Responds To Intercept Hit Piece On Covering Violent Black Lives Matter Riots

On this episode of The Federalist Radio Hour, senior writer for Townhall Julio Rosas joins Culture Editor Emily Jashinsky to discuss The Intercept’s hit piece bashing journalists, especially those who work at conservative media outlets, for reporting on last summer’s violent Black Lives Matter riots.

“Riot coverage was a big part of my work last year, there’s no denying that,” Rosas explained. “However, they were giving off the impression that we never, I never noticed whenever there was a peaceful moment during the protest and that is not true … they were saying that we were cherry-picking violence to smear the BLM movement.”

There were peaceful protestors in some areas, Rosas said, but he noted there was also a significant amount of violence, destruction, and rioting that required attention too.

“Obviously black lives matter. They do,” Rosas said. “But this movement, this overall movement does get violent, and that is a fact. And it’s not our fault that a lot of the violence that happened last year was channeled through that movement. It’s a fact and it’s also very newsworthy.”
