Underwood, who has often spoken about her Christian faith, beat out popular Christian groups and artists Elevation Worship, Bethel Music, We the Kingdom and Zach Williams with her Christmas album, My Gift.

According to Taste of Country, Underwood released My Gift in September of 2020. This was Underwood’s first Christmas album and it debuted at number one on the Billboard Country, Christian and Holiday charts, Music Row reports. My Gift maintained the number one spot of the aforementioned charts for three non-consecutive weeks.

The album also held the number five spot on Billboard’s Top 200 list.

When announcing My Gift in July, Underwood shared that she had “always wanted to make a Christmas album,” adding that “it’s been a long time coming,” Taste of Country reports.

“Even though it has been a tough year for all of us, sometimes I feel like the greatest realizations can be inspired by the most difficult times and make us more grateful for the things we do have and for what truly matters,” she added.

In March 2021, Underwood came out with a second faith-based album, My Savior.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, Underwood told Good Morning America that My Savior was a companion to My Gift.

Underwood also told GMA that she was happy to be making this kind of music again. She said, “When I was making this music, I felt like my soul was in such a great place, I wanted to keep making music like the music off of My Gift. It’s just been such a blessing to make music like this, music that is near and dear to my heart. I hope you guys enjoy listening to it as much as I loved making it.”

Underwood echoed these sentiments in an interview with the Associated Press, saying, “I’m lucky enough that I feel like I’ve been making spiritual music along the way in my career. I love the sassy stuff, and I love to get an attitude and get dressed up and do all that stuff. But it’s so nice to be able to sing songs like this. It’s such a great time to just really slow down and be super intentional about what I’m doing. It’s not about the bigger, better thing. It’s about the smaller thing, the thing that’s inside of me.”

My Savior features modern takes on popular gospel songs like “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace.”

According to Taste of Country, My Savior debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country and Christian charts. It also reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.
