Lauren Daigle Becomes First Female Artist to Have 5 Number 1 Songs on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs Chart

Lauren Daigle, a two-time Grammy Award winner and multi-platinum recording artist, made history with her current single, “Hold on to Me,” which became her fifth song to top Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs list.

Daigle currently has the most No. 1 hits of any female artist on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart since the chart’s inception in 2003.

According to The Christian Post, of all artists, MercyMe has the most number one hits, with 13 songs topping the chart.

During the tracking week, “Hold on to Me” received 1.8 million streams in the United States, and according to MRC Data, the company that owns Billboard, the song’s sales increased by 228 percent to 5,500 downloads just days after Daigle performed on the popular singing competition show, The Voice.

Daigle penned “Hold on to Me” while on tour in 2019. The song follows in the footsteps of her chart-topping crossover single “You Say” in that it was written as a love song to God but may equally be dedicated to a loved one. Daigle’s last solo single was released over two years ago. “Hold on to Me” was written by the Louisiana native in collaboration with Paul Duncan and Paul Mabury.

Daigle explained in an Apple Music video that the song served as a nice reminder after 2020 to come together and “Remember that being with each other, and being there for each other, and holding each other up in the worst times – is what life is truly all about.”

Daigle’s song “Trust in You,” which topped the Hot Christian Songs chart for 18 weeks beginning in March 2016, is among those that have previously topped the chart.

In 2017, her duet with Reba McEntire, “Back to God,” reached No. 1 for one week. Beginning in July 2018, her record-breaking single “You Say” spent 129 weeks at the top of the charts. The song is still at No. 3 on the charts. In 2019, her “The Christmas Song” also spent a week at the top.
