Trinity Church Wall Street Awards $4.6 Million in Grants to Christian Organizations across the U.S., Latin America, Africa
Lower Manhattan-based Trinity Church Wall Street announced on Tuesday that it will be giving more than $4.6 million in grants to various Christian organizations across the United States, Latin America and Africa.
According to The Christian Post, Trinity Church Wall Street is the wealthiest Episcopal church in the world with a net worth of more than $6 billion. The church has offered grants ranging from $40,000 to $750,000 to a total of 25 organizations, all of which “are working on a range of projects, to advance faith and skills-based leadership for both clergy and lay people and real estate development projects to deliver positive social impact and sustain ministries for generations,” the church said in a Tuesday press release.
Receiving the largest grant ($750,000) was Union Theological Seminary. Other seminaries awarded grants are Berkeley Divinity School at Yale ($150,000), Wesley Theological Seminary ($100,000), Princeton Theological Seminary ($100,000) and Auburn Theological Seminary ($100,000).
In total, 15 dioceses, churches or church-related organizations across the U.S., Latin America and Africa were awarded grants ranging from $40,000 to $480,000.
Trinity also gave $50,000 to the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, $90,000 to the Hispanic Youth Leadership Academy, $500,000 to the Nonprofit Finance Fund, $100,000 to Partnership for Renewal and $100,000 to the Joint Learning Initiative on Faith and Local Communities.
Chief Philanthropy Officer at Trinity, Neill Coleman, said that “These grants will advance a church that is building more [than] just communities through investments in both place and people. We are investing in sustainable financial capacity for churches, and leaders who will bring social impact in their communities, locally, nationally and internationally.”
He added, “It is an honor and a blessing to work with these partners living our faith across our Communion.”
The Rev. Phillip A. Jackson, priest-in-charge of Trinity Church Wall Street, added in a statement, “Trinity continues our mission of helping churches create ministries that will not only impact their communities immediately but continue to help in years to come.
“We also believe in the importance of training the next generation of leaders in the Episcopal Church and are excited to announce almost $2 million in grants targeted to this purpose.”
In addition to the grants awarded to the 25 Christian organizations, Trinity also provided 75 grants totaling $10.4 million to help “support New York City-based nonprofits working for racial justice and housing affordability,” the press release noted.
