Will Major League Baseball Survive Its Own Woke-ification?
On this episode of The Federalist Radio Hour, Jason Russell, a deputy managing editor at Reason and baseball fan, joins Culture Editor Emily Jashinsky to discuss the woke-ification and politicization of Major League Baseball and the upcoming All-Star game.
“I don’t think a lot about politics when I’m watching baseball,” Russell said. “I didn’t love the decision to change the venue. That didn’t really have anything to do with my thoughts about Georgia’s voting law. I think that the commissioner could have said ‘We’re just here to play this. This has nothing to do with voting rights. We set this game up two years ago. It had nothing to do with the voting rights in Georgia then, it has nothing to do with it now. We’re still gonna play this game here.’”
MLB’s willingness to cave to the demands of the leftist mob demanding they move the All-Star game, Russell said, has more to do with cancel culture than the league’s position on Georgia’s voting bill
“What you have is a bunch of online liberals getting on the internet and using their pressure, their outrage to force an institution or at least persuade an institution and pressure them to make a decision on something in a politically opportune way,” he said.
