Bennett: Third dose will stop fourth COVID lockdown

“If we go out and get the third dose [of the COVID-19 vaccine], we can stop a fourth lockdown,” said Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Friday morning just before he received his booster shot.
The prime minister, 49, was inoculated at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba. He was among the first Israelis in his age bracket to receive the shot, after the Advisory Committee for the Corona Vaccines and Epidemic Control voted late Thursday to allow people over the age of 40 to have the booster.

It also approved the move for educational staff and pregnant women who were inoculated more than five months ago.
Bennett said that a few weeks ago it was understood that if the country vaccinated with a third dose in the Hebrew month of Elul, then families would be able to celebrate Rosh Hashanah together in the Hebrew month of Tishrei – one month later.
He said that he had instructed the health funds to open hundreds more vaccination complexes across the country to accommodate what he hopes will be an influx of people registered to get a third shot.
Clalit Health Services said that 20,000 people had already registered to get the jab and shared photos of people between the ages of 40 and 49 at complexes on Friday morning.
Kupat Holim Meuhedet started vaccination Thursday night and reported Friday morning that some 6,000 appointments had been made.
The other health funds shared similar updates.
“We are seeing profound effectiveness, efficacy, of the vaccines,” Bennett said. “It is working, it is safe, and it is the way to defeat this virus. We need all together, to work together, in order to defeat it.
“We from Israel are going to share all the data, all the information in this pioneering,” Bennett continued. “I am happy to hear that many other countries are following suit because at the end of the day this is a global war on COVID, and we have got to win.”
