‘Without God, We Have Nothing’: Trump, Religious Advisors Launch New Faith Advisory Board
Former President Donald Trump and his evangelical advisors have launched a National Faith Advisory Board coalition aimed at growing evangelical support for Trump.
In a clip of a prayer call from last Thursday obtained by Right Wing Watch, Trump lamented the current state of faith and religion, saying it was “not good.” The prayer call was a part of the official launch of the new advisory board.
“A lot of things have happened, and a lot of things have happened with respect to faith and religion and they’re not good things. They are not good, they’re not good at all,” Trump can be heard saying in the clip.
Trump also insisted that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
“Everyone on this call made a critical contribution to our movement over the past five years. And we’ve had tremendous success, and then we had a horrendous result to an election that was won. We won that election, and now numbers are coming out that are shocking to people, and it’s a shame,” the former president continued.
Trump further pointed out several moves he made while he was president that appealed to conservative Christians, including making Jerusalem the Capital of Israel, founding a new White House faith office, declaring churches as “essential” during the COVID-19 pandemic and appointing conservative judges to the U.S. Supreme Court. He also asserted that fighting for religious liberty was one of the “greatest honors” of his life.
According to the National Faith Advisory Board website, the group’s mission is to “proudly continue the work we began at The White House, through partnering and bringing together a diverse coalition of faith leaders to amplify their voices to impact our nation.”
The new initiative will be led by televangelist Paula White, who served as Trump’s spiritual advisor during his time in office.
According to Religion News Service, during the conference call, White noted that the new National Faith Advisory Board includes participation from “70 executives.” She also mentioned a previous faith advisory board, likely referring to a group of well-known evangelicals who advised and supported Trump during his 2016 bid for the presidency.
“It grew to the most robust coalition in modern-day history,” White said of the previous board’s efforts. “Our unity brought unprecedented victories, influence and access.”
When asked about his faith, Trump concluded, “It’s all based around God — it’s so important. God is so important to the success of what we’re doing. Because without God, we have nothing.”
