Democrats Would Prefer That You Ignore All of the Violent Crime Around You; Murders Soared 30 Percent in 2020 in Largest Annual Increase on Record; A Dose Of Reality About Crime In America

Democrats Would Prefer That You Ignore All of the Violent Crime Around You

As if it weren’t already obvious from looking outside our own windows or reading the news, the FBI recently confirmed that Americans weren’t exactly on our best behavior last year during all of the plague and riot stuff.

My colleague A.J. Kaufman had the story:

The FBI’s annual report Monday made official what most unfortunately presumed: The United States in 2020 experienced the biggest rise in murders since the start of national record-keeping 60 years ago.

The Uniform Crime Report detailed a murder increase of nearly 30 percent.

The previous largest one-year change was a 12.7 percent increase back in 1968. The national rate of murders per 100,000, however, still remains about one-third below the rate in the early 1990s.

The FBI data show around 21,500 total murders last year, which is 5,000 more murders than in 2019. More than three-fourths of reported murders in 2020 were committed with a firearm, the highest rate ever reported.

Now before you start jumping to conclusions about a correlation between the leftist fever to defund the police and a huge jump in the nation’s murder rate, you should probably be aware of the fact that the Democrats want you to know that there’s no problem at all. —>READ MORE HERE

Murders Soared 30 Percent in 2020 in Largest Annual Increase on Record:

Murders soared 30 percent in the U.S. from 2019 to 2020 in the steepest single-year increase on record for the FBI.

More than 21,000 homicides were reported in 2020, reaching a pinnacle during the summer of the pandemic, according to the agency’s annual Uniform Crime Report released Monday. Violent crime saw an uptick of 5 percent between 2019 and 2020.

While the database presents a snapshot of crime in the country, it’s not comprehensive due to missing data, CNN reported. It potentially doesn’t reflect the true severity of the story, as only 85 percent of law enforcement agencies submitted their crime statistics in 2020.

In addition, several large metropolitan areas including New York, Chicago and New Orleans did not share their data for the final report. —>READ MORE HERE

A Dose Of Reality About Crime In America:

Whether one agrees with David French or not, he is a bright man. When he writes about alternative approaches to treating criminals, given the unprecedented rise in crime over the last year, perhaps it’s worth paying attention. Or perhaps it’s not. A brilliant Twitter thread exposes facts that French conveniently ignores. More than that, the thread reveals that soft-headed criminal justice reform is incredibly cruel to the communities most affected by crime.

After a wordy introduction meant to prove his woke bona fides, French gets to the point: there’s been a 29% increase in crime over the last year. French skips completely over the “why” of this increase (hint: “defund the police”) because he wants to discuss a more Sunday sermon point, which is that the system has been riven in the past with injustice, and we now have the opportunity to change that.

French accurately says there is no justice when criminals or police get away with violating the law. Under-policing is also a form of injustice, he says, although how he manages to say this and then takes eight paragraphs before mentioning the defund the police movement is beyond me. —>READ MORE HERE
