Trump Launching New Social Media Platform Called ‘TRUTH Social’ to ‘Fight Back against Big Tech’

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced the launch of a new social media platform, TRUTH Social, that is being called a “big tent” project that will promote “open, free, and honest” conversation without discrimination against viewpoints.

Truth Social will test a Beta version in November for invited guests, with a worldwide rollout expected in the first quarter of 2022.

The platform is the result of a merger agreement between Trump Media & Technology Group and Digital World Acquisition Corp. The company will maintain the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) name.

“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech,” Trump said in a news release. “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable.”

The platform, Trump said, “was founded with a mission to give a voice to all.” The major social media companies, including Facebook and Twitter, booted Trump from their platforms earlier this year.

“I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech,” Trump said. “Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!”

The company says TRUTH Social will be a platform for everyone – conservatives and liberals alike. Its website bills the project as a “Big Tent” platform that “encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.”

“No Political Discrimination. Canceling Cancel Culture. Standing Up to Big Tech,” the TMTG website says.

This “big tent” concept is promoted in the Truth Social app’s description in the Apple App Store, where the app is compared to a “giant outdoor tent” at a wedding where a libertarian from Atlanta, a die-hard liberal from California and a staunch conservative from Texas are gathered. (The app is available for pre-order.)

“They’re all together to have an amazing time and share their viewpoints of the world. Although we don’t always agree with each other, we welcome these varied opinions and welcome the conversation,” the app’s description says.

A press release says Trump Media & Technology Group’s mission is to “create a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the ‘Big Tech’ companies of Silicon Valley, which have used their unilateral power to silence opposing voices in America.”

TMTG also will launch a subscription video-on-demand service (TMTG+) and a news platform, TMTG News, according to the press release and website.
