New Poll Shows More Than Half of Americans Blame President Biden for Widespread National Division

A new poll that found that President Joe Biden’s approval rating is falling has also found that more than half of Americans blame Biden for the division among the country.

According to a poll from the Trafalgar Group, 54.2 percent of likely general election voters believed Biden is responsible “for the divisions in the American people.”

The survey also found that Biden’s approval rating is 36 percent, and his disapproval rating is about 59 percent. Five percent of respondents had no opinion.

Among Democrats, Biden’s approval rating is at 65 percent, and among Republicans, that number is 8 percent.

The survey included more than 1,000 likely general election voters ages 18 and older. More than 70 percent of those surveyed were White.

About 40 percent said they were Democrats, and about 36 percent said they were Republicans, while the remaining identified as non-partisan or other.

The newest poll follows a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll of registered voters conducted in early November that found people are divided on whether Biden is “mentally fit.”

About 27 percent agreed that the president is “mentally fit,” while 19 percent somewhat agreed, 38 percent strongly disagreed, and 10 percent somewhat disagreed.

Biden is 79.

Another approval rating survey showed that 45 percent of registered voters approved of Biden’s job performance, while 52 percent disapproved.

In comparison, Newsweek pointed out that former President Donald Trump had a 42 percent approval about 10 months into his presidency. About 53 percent disapproved.

This week, Economist G. Elliott Morris wrote that partisan division is likely to stay around, and a wildly popular president may not happen again.

“One thing I think most politics reporters and commentators have yet to internalize is that polarization inherently means the days of presidents hitting 55 percent approval months into office are probably long gone, and 60 percent might never happen again (under normal political conditions),” Morris tweeted.
