Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Announces His Wife Is Cancer-Free

After months of battling breast cancer, Florida governor Ron DeSantis revealed that his wife, Casey, is now cancer-free.

According to CBN News, DeSantis shared the joyous news in a short video posted to social media last Thursday.

“For all the women out there going through breast cancer right now, you can overcome this,” the governor shared. “I know it’s very difficult, but my wife is proof positive. If you wound back six or seven months, this is exactly the kind of news that we had hoped for. She still has more to do, but I’m confident she is going to make a full recovery.”

“Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, and God bless you all,” he concluded.

Casey, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in October and had her final chemotherapy treatment session in January, expressed her gratitude in a follow-up post on Twitter.

“There are no words to express how truly blessed, grateful, and humbled I am to hear the words cancer-free,” the First Lady of Florida wrote. “To those who are in the fight, know there is hope. Have faith and stay strong.”

The announcement was well-received by local political figures.

“Wonderful news, @FLCaseyDeSantis! Your recovery is a testament to your fighting spirit and faith,” tweeted Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez

Christina Pushaw, governor’s press secretary, thanked everyone who prayed for Casey DeSantis.

Several Republican governors also celebrated the encouraging update.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called the revelation “great news,” while Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said the update was “a tremendous answer to prayer.”

“Elee and I are thrilled at this news. God bless the DeSantis family!” Reeves tweeted.

When Casey was first diagnosed with breast cancer, DeSantis hailed his wife as the “centerpiece of our family” and a woman who “has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as first lady.”

He then referenced a 1941 speech by U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill, saying she is a “true fighter” who will “never, never, never give up.”

The DeSantis’ married in 2010 and have three children together.
