Jesus' Coming Back

The Chosen Season 3 Begins Filming: ‘It’s Going to Be Intense,’ Dallas Jenkins Says of Plot

The cast and crew behind the hit Bible-based series The Chosen began filming Season 3 Monday, with director Dallas Jenkins requesting prayer from fans as he hinted at an “intense” plot.

The scripts for Season 3, Jenkins told fans during a Facebook live stream, have “turned out” even “better than we anticipated.”

“Everyone who is involved is really excited about them,” Jenkins said.

Produced by Angel Studios, The Chosen is a television series about the life of Jesus and his disciples. Launched in 2017, it has become a global phenomenon, with 400 million views through multiple platforms. It can be viewed, for free, through The Chosen app.

Jenkins said the filming of Season 3 has been hit with multiple delays, “many of which are out of our control.” Jenkins acknowledged anxiety and stress heading into the filming of the new season.

“We need your help. … Pray for us. Pray for the actors and the crew,” he said before adding, “At the end of the day, the show is still the show. The scripts are still exciting. The sets are looking great.”

During the live stream, Jenkins interviewed Lara Silva, an actress who plays the wife of Simon Peter. Although Scripture does not reveal the name of Peter’s wife, the series gives her a name: Eden.

“Eden and Simon have a huge storyline this year,” Jenkins said. “… One of the things I think is strong about this season is the honesty, the expression of ‘I’m upset, I’m devastated. I’m overwhelmed. I’m not feeling joy.’ That’s a key theme of Season 3. … It’s going to be intense, for sure.”

Said Silva, “We’re going deeper.”

Jenkins did not reveal spoilers but added that Simon Peter and Eden “deal with a lot” in Season 3.

“I’m not even saying how it all turns out, but just seeing how they wrestle with things, and how we can identify with the people of the first century – that’s ultimately the point of the show,” Jenkins said. “We believe if you can see Jesus through the eyes of those who actually met Him, [then] you can be changed and impacted in the same way they were.”
