GOP Border Governors Defy Pleas of Former Trump Officials to Declare ‘invasion’; Record 234,088 migrants arrived at southern border in April as numbers soar days before Title 42 ends: 117,989 were released into US; Texas Congressman Troy Nehls Demands Biden Act on Border Crisis

GOP border governors defy pleas of former Trump officials to declare ‘invasion’

Top former Trump administration officials are warring with the governors of Arizona and Texas over their refusal to declare an “invasion” at the Mexico border in order to justify more aggressive measures to curb illegal immigration.

Former Department of Homeland Security second-in-command Ken Cuccinelli accused Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) on Wednesday of doing nothing to resolve the border crisis, more than a year after it began, and instead accused him of wasting billions of dollars on Operation Lone Star, a joint border mission between state troopers and national guard members, which Cuccinelli derided as a “photo op.”

Cuccinelli leveled a similar charge against Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona.

“You’ve got two governors, Gov. Ducey in Arizona and Gov. Abbott, talking very tough, using cool-sounding programs like Operation Lone Star in Texas and Border Strike Force in Arizona,” Cuccinelli, now a senior fellow at the conservative nonprofit organization Center for Renewing America, said during a call with reporters.

“Even this month, with the highest [migrant encounter] numbers ever, only a month after Gov. Abbott announced unprecedented efforts to protect Texas’s borders, they have done nothing to lower the numbers crossing,” said Cuccinelli, whose technical title in the Trump administration was the senior official performing the duties of DHS deputy secretary. —>READ MORE HERE

Record 234,088 migrants arrived at southern border in April as numbers soar days before Title 42 ends: 117,989 were released into US:

U.S. authorities said Monday that they stopped migrants more than 234,000 times in April, one of the highest marks in decades as the Biden administration prepares to lift pandemic-era restrictions on claiming asylum.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials made 234,088 stops on the Mexican border last month, a 5.8% increase from 221,303 in March, according to a Justice Department filing in a lawsuit filed by Texas and Missouri.

The figure is a 22-year high and surpassed the previous high of Biden’s presidency of 209,906 set in March, and the highest level since March 2000, when it reached 220,063.

Also in April, 117,989 migrants were released into the United States and 113,248 were removed. Of that, 98,908 were expelled via Title 42.

The April total would have been lower without more than 23,000 people – many of them Ukrainian refugees admitted on humanitarian parole – who went through a San Diego border crossing. —>READ MORE HERE

Texas Congressman Troy Nehls Demands Biden Act on Border Crisis:

“This crisis is rupturing our communities and taking American lives.”

As the humanitarian crisis along Texas’ southern border continues, U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls issued a letter imploring President Biden to take action and help border states repel illegal border crossers.

Nehls partnered with Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs and 32 additional Republican lawmakers to send the letter.

The congressmen called on Biden to uphold Article IV, Section 4 of the United States Constitution, which requires the federal government to protect the states from invasion or domestic attack.

Nehls’ letter highlighted several instances of violence along the southern border, including an October 2021 attack where members of a Mexican cartel fired on Texas National Guard soldiers. The congressmen also pointed to the dangers average Americans face when cartel members venture onto their property while illegally crossing the U.S. border.

“Additionally, border ranchers are experiencing violence firsthand as cartel members, who are dressed in camouflage and carrying weapons to protect their drug lords, march over the border and across their lands,” wrote the congressmen. “Some ranchers have experienced over 15 armed drug traffickers on their property at one time.” —>READ MORE HERE
