Senator Marco Rubio Calls for Increased Protection of Supreme Court Justices, Pro-Life Organizations
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to put stronger protections in place for Supreme Court justices and pro-life organizations as they face rising threats.
“The DOJ must protect the integrity of the Court and protect the rights and freedoms of pro-life organizations,” Rubio asserted.
According to CBN News, a report from the Department of Homeland Security agreed that threats of violence have recently increased against the court officials and other pro-life supporters.
Last Wednesday, a man carrying a gun, knife and zip ties was arrested near Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s house in Maryland. The man has since been charged with attempted murder.
“These criminals are not only targeting Supreme Court justices. As you know, radical pro-abortion activists have targeted pro-life centers, groups, and churches across the United States with arson, vandalism, and threats of violence simply because of their pro-life views,” Rubio said in the letter.
“The DOJ can no longer afford to remain on the sidelines and must instead commit to investigating and prosecuting criminal actors who have answered the call to violence.”
Most recently, pro-life women’s clinics in Oregon, Florida, Washington, Wisconsin, and D.C. have been vandalized. Churches have also been targeted. Jane’s Revenge, a pro-abortion group, has admitted involvement in vandalizing churches in the Olympia, Washington area.
“Catholic bishops and priests across the nation have reported credible threats to churches and members of the clergy,” Rubio said. “For instance, the Archdiocese of Miami Respect Life was vandalized with the threatening message, ‘If abortion isn’t safe, neither are you.”
Rubio said the DOJ has “failed to investigate” the violence.
The protests and vandalism follow a leaked draft opinion that indicated the Supreme Court would strike down Roe v. Wade, leaving the legality of abortion up to the states.
