Minneapolis Community Raises $275K for Elderly Woman Facing Eviction
A Minneapolis community recently gathered together to support an older woman facing eviction from her home.
Linda Taylor, also known as “Miss Linda,” was informed by her landlord in February that she was under the threat of eviction from her home, where she had lived for 19 years. According to KSTP-TV, her Powderhorn community caught wind of the news and united to protest against the eviction.
“I just talked to one person, and that one person said, ‘There’s no way, Miss Linda, you are going to move,'” Taylor said.
As reported by CBN News, the months of demonstrations proved to be a success as the landlord reconsidered and gave Taylor the option to purchase the house.
Taylor, 70, did not have the money to pay off the house since she had been doing volunteer work over the last two decades after moving from Michigan to Minneapolis to help the homeless and needy.
In addition to the demonstrations, residents in Taylor’s neighborhood raised $275,000 so she could pay off her home in late May.
“It makes me feel so good,” she told the local news outlet. “Everything that I have given, it’s coming back to me, and I want to continue to give. I love this neighborhood.”
She added that it marks the beginning of a new season and a new opportunity to give back.
“When we are sticking together, we are going to be successful in our neighborhood. We’re going to take care of each other,” Taylor asserted.
Singing her praises, Steven Smith, one of Taylor’s neighbors, told KSTP-TV, “We have a lot of good people in the neighborhood, but she’s the brightest star of it. Everyone likes her. I’m so happy things worked out for her.”
Earlier this month, the community gathered for a block party in honor of Miss Linda.
