Tim Keller ‘Doing Much Better’ following Struggle with Cancer Treatment Side Effects

Michael Keller, the son of speaker and best-selling author Tim Keller, shared that his father was feeling better after recently struggling with side effects from immunotherapy treatment for his stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

“Hello everyone, thank you for your prayers this past week. Things were scary for a bit, but God was gracious, working through your prayers and the skill of the doctors, and now he is doing much better,” Michael wrote across his father’s social media accounts Friday.

“He is due to be released from the hospital next week and will have ongoing outpatient treatments for a while. Please continue to pray over the next 6 months as we wait on the Lord (Psalm 130) to destroy the cancer. We are hopeful.” the post concluded.

Tim, the founder of Redeemer of Presbyterian Church and Redeemer City to City, had struggled with the side effects of the treatment last week, according to his son, who asked supporters to keep his father in their prayers.

“Dad is currently dealing with the side effects of an immunotherapy treatment that he is undergoing,” Michael wrote on Facebook last Monday. “We ask that you continue to pray for Dad’s healing and for the decisions of his doctors and medical team, who continue to provide excellent, compassionate care. Thank you for the outpouring of love and support. We deeply covet your prayers at this time,” he concluded.

Earlier this month, the “Reason for God” author entered an immunotherapy trial at the National Cancer Center in Bethesda, Maryland, on June 1. In an update last month, Keller shared that chemotherapies had reduced the stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which he was first diagnosed with in May 2020.

“This has shown great promise in potentially curing cancer, though it is a rigorous and demanding month-long program (that will need updates up to six months),” he said.

Keller also survived thyroid cancer, which he was diagnosed with back in 2002.
