‘God Did It,’ Trump Says in Response to Roe v. Wade Being Overturned
Former President Donald Trump said God was responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade last Friday.
During a recent interview with Fox News, Trump addressed the ruling, which now delegates the issue of abortion back to the states. During his presidency, Trump appointed three justices – Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett – to the Supreme Court, giving the nation’s high court a conservative majority.
When Fox News asked if the historic decision was due to Trump’s appointment of conservative justices to the Supreme Court, he said, “God did it.”
The former president also said that he believes the decision will ultimately “work out for everybody,” even for people who are pro-choice.
“This is following the Constitution and giving rights back when they should have been given long ago,” Trump said. “This brings everything back to the states where it has always belonged.”
In the case of Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the conservative majority upheld Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban on Friday in an opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito, who was joined by Justices Clarence Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Meanwhile, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Kavanaugh and Thomas all wrote concurring opinions.
According to the syllabus to the majority opinion, the court wrote, “Held: The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.”
In a statement by his political committee, Trump praised the court’s historic ruling on Friday, describing it as “the biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation.”
“I delivered everything as promised, including nominating and getting three highly respected and strong Constitutionalists confirmed to the United States Supreme Court,” Trump said. “It was my great honor to do so! I did not cave to the Radical Left Democrats, their partners in the Fake News Media, or the RINOs who are likewise the true, but silent, enemy of the people.”
As reported by The Christian Post, former Vice President Mike Pence also praised the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe V. Wade on Friday and called for a national abortion ban.
The decision “has given the American people a new beginning for life, and I commend the justices in the majority for having the courage of their convictions,” Pence told Breitbart in a statement.
“By returning the question of abortion to the states and to the people, this Supreme Court has righted a historic wrong and reaffirmed the right of the American people to govern themselves at the state level in a manner consistent with their values and aspirations,” the former vice president continued.
“Now that Roe v. Wade has been consigned to the ash heap of history, a new arena in the cause of life has emerged, and it is incumbent on all who cherish the sanctity of life to resolve that we will take the defense of the unborn and the support for women in crisis pregnancy centers to every state in America. Having been given this second chance for life, we must not rest and must not relent until the sanctity of life is restored to the center of American law in every state in the land,” Pence concluded.
