Jesus' Coming Back

God ‘Gave Us This Song,’ Jordan Feliz Says of ‘Jesus Is Coming Back’

Jordan Feliz’s hope-filled song Jesus Is Coming Back may seem like it was written for the turbulent 2020s, but it actually was penned several months before the world fell into a worldwide pandemic that sparked store runs on toilet paper, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes.

As Feliz sees it, that fact alone proves that God knows what His people will need even before they experience it.

Jesus Is Coming Back has enjoyed a 24-week run on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart, reaching a peak position of No. 2. It soared to No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay list, where it peaked at No. 1.

The song’s opening verse speaks to the problems of 2020 and the ensuing years: “Have you ever thought that the world has kinda lost its way? Crazy as it seems, yeah, I know it’s gonna be okay. It doesn’t scare me, it’s temporary. There’s something better, we got forever.”

The chorus offers hope by reminding the listener to “keep your head up” because “Jesus is coming back.”

“I like to talk about Jesus Is Coming Back,” a smiling Feliz told Christian Headlines. “We wrote this song in 2019 – so before the pandemic, before anything happened. It’s just proof that God knows everything. He knows where we’re going, He knows what’s coming, whether we want to admit it or not – He knows.

“And He gave us this song,” Feliz said.

The song was partially inspired by the book of Revelation, he added.

“Right around chapter 6, it gets a little scary,” Feliz said. “The seals are opened up, and you’re able to envision these things that happen. And as a kid … it kind of created a little bit of fear. And so anytime anybody would talk about Jesus coming back, or, you know, the second coming of Christ, I would always get a little nervous.

“But as I grew in my faith, I really wanted to change that narrative. So I wanted to write a song that would change that narrative to hope – that people would understand that this is just an airport. It’s not our final destination. It’s so awesome to watch God use this song and to see that truth get poured out on people and have people connect with it.”

Feliz, who won a 2016 Dove Award for New Artist of the Year, describes his musical style as a “little bit of everything.”

“I listen to a lot of country, I listen to R&B,” he told Christian Headlines. “But I grew up listening to a lot of Motown and a lot of Christian music. So that’s kind of my main influence. I always try to view [my style] as being pop and soul at the same time.”
