Japanese Report Says That Toruya Yamagami Was Arrested As The Suspect For The Shooting Of Shinzo Abe

Japanese media reports are stating that the suspect for the shooting of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is one Toruya Yamagami, according to DW Japan:

According to comprehensive Japanese media reports, the police arrested a 41-year-old suspect, Toruya Yamagami, on the spot. The man had a gun and was arrested for attempted murder. “NHK” reported from the scene that the suspect was wearing a gray T-shirt and did not try to escape after committing the crime. The police immediately stepped forward to surround him, subdued him on the ground, arrested him, and seized his gun.

After the incident, the Nara crime scene pulled up a heavy blockade, and there were crowds surrounding and paying attention, and the helicopter hovered over the sky. A witness at the scene told “NHK” that before Abe fell to the ground, unidentified smoke could be seen at the scene. Two other witnesses said that when Abe was giving a speech, they heard the first shot, and Abe stepped back a little. After the second shot, they saw the spark of the gun, and then Abe fell to the ground, and the crowd rushed up. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Abe.

The whole case is still under investigation. According to a number of Japanese media reports, the murderer was a former member of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, but had already left in 2005.
