Amazon Releases First Full Trailer for Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
The first full-length trailer for Amazon’s much-anticipated Lord of the Rings series dropped Friday and amassed 7.5 million views on YouTube in its first three days.
The three-minute trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power reveals scenic landscapes, massive battles, evil monsters and heroic characters as part of a series that is said to be “based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.”
The series launches on Prime Video on September 2.
It is set thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books.
“We thought the war, at last, was ended,” a female voice says in the trailer. “We thought our joys would be unending. We thought our light would never dim.”
But then she adds, “Evil does not sleep. It waits.”
One of the series’ central characters, Galadriel (played by Morfydd Clark), is seen.
The series promises to unveil the “legend that forged the rings,” according to the trailer.
An Amazon news release said the series will bring together the “heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history.”
“[It] will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness,” Amazon says.
“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elf capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”
