Russell Moore Named Editor-in-Chief of Christianity Today
Dr. Russell Moore, the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, has been named Christianity Today‘s editor-in-chief.
Moore, who currently serves as CT’s Public Theologian director of the Public Theology Project, will assume his new role on September 1. The news was first announced by CT’s President and CEO, Timothy Dalrymple.
“As president and CEO, I have held the editor-in-chief position in stewardship for a brief time, but it needs someone to inhabit it fully, and Moore exhibits that way of following Jesus that is deeply rooted, beautifully orthodox, thoughtful and compassionate, and committed to serving the kingdom even at great cost to ourselves,” Dalrymple said, Christianity Today reports.
Moore served as president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention from 2013 to 2021, according to his website. Before being appointed to that position, Moore was a dean at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He has also authored multiple books, including The Courage to Stand: Facing Your Fear Without Losing Your Soul, Onward: Engaging the Culture without Losing the Gospel and The Storm-Tossed Family: How the Cross Reshapes the Home.
Dalrymple, who has been leading the publication as its president since 2019, also announced the appointment of Longtime publishing executive Joy Allmond as CT’s new editorial chief of staff.
“One of the primary charges for Moore will be to continue advancing the Public Theology Project,” he said. “Allmond will work alongside him to see that project flourish. With an extensive background at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Decision magazine, and Lifeway, Allmond will bring considerable editorial, executive, and interpersonal gifts to the smooth functioning of our publishing enterprise as well as forthcoming events and programs.
“Ours is an era of great peril and great promise for the church. We are determined at Christianity Today to do everything we can to serve the church in a turbulent and divisive time, and to love the world God made,” Dalrymple concluded. “We were honored to bring Russell Moore onto the team a little over a year ago. Now we look forward to what he, Allmond, and our extraordinary editorial team can accomplish in the years ahead.”
