FBI Was Looking for Evidence of Espionage Act Violations, Obstruction of Justice in Search of Trump’s Florida Home

An FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s home in Florida turned up 11 sets of classified documents, including one classified as sensitive national security information. Such documents are usually viewed in a highly secure location.

According to CBN News, the warrant shows agents were looking for evidence of three potential crimes, including obstruction of justice and violations of the Espionage Act.

“Some of those documents were marked top secret, sensitive compartmented information,” U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said. “That is among the highest designation in terms of the extremely grave damage to national security that could be done if it was disclosed.”

Federal agents confiscated four sets of “top secret” documents, three sets of “secret” documents, and three sets of “confidential” documents, court paperwork shows. According to the unsealed warrant, the FBI collected more than 20 boxes filled with sensitive information, binders filled with images, classified government materials and at least one handwritten note.

In June, a lawyer for Trump signed a statement, saying that all classified documents at Mar-a-Lago had been turned over to federal investigators.

In a late-night post on his Truth Social platform Thursday, Trump said he would “not oppose the release of documents” and that he was “going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents.”

The former president has not been charged and claims the files were de-classified.

House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) said, “The FBI raid of President Trump is a complete abuse and overreach of its authority. This is the same agency leadership that protected Hillary Clinton, James Comey and continues to protect Hunter Biden; the same agency leadership that perpetrated the false Russia hoax for years.”

Lawmakers are asking the Justice Department to release more records.

“I think releasing the affidavit would help, at the very least, confirm that there was a justification for this raid,” said Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD).
