Former Hillsong Pastor Brian Houston Delivers Message on Cancel Culture at Seattle Church

Former co-founder of Hillsong Brian Houston appeared at a Seattle-area church recently to preach and seemingly referred to the scandals he and the Hillsong church have faced.

According to The Roys Report, last week, Houston took the pulpit at Seattle’s Christian Faith Center and preached a sermon called “A Legacy That Outlasts You.”

“Understand, yes, I might dent my legacy,” Houston said. “But that’s not the same as totaling my legacy– being written off… The heart of God never cancels people, never writes people off.”

“People will write people off,” he said. “People are harder on people than God is, by far. Cancel culture will write you off. Maybe social media trolls, if you get any of them– because I get none– they might write you off. But God won’t write you off.”

Christian Faith Center is led by Casey and Wendy Treat, founding pastors and televangelists who have been called mentors to Houston and his wife, Bobbie.

In an Instagram post showing a picture of her husband at the pulpit of Christian Faith Center, Bobbie wrote that she was “so proud” and that the church had “marked a milestone for us.

“We will never ever ever forget your love, grace, welcome, and warmth.”

Earlier this year, Hillsong announced that its own investigation found Houston had allegedly spent time alone in a hotel room with a woman who was not his wife. He also allegedly sent flirtatious text messages to another Hillsong employee.

Houston is also facing charges from Australian officials for allegedly concealing his late father’s child sex offenses. Police believe that his late father, Frank Houston, indecently assaulted a young man in 1970. According to police, Houston may have known about the abuse as early as 1999 but did not report the information.

Frank Houston was also a preacher. He died in 2004.

“This is the most painful thing I’ve ever been through,” Houston said at Christian Faith Center. “I’ve never been betrayed like this. I’ve never been spoken about like this. I’ve never been lied about, gossiped about– I’ve never been defrauded like this,” Houston concluded.
