Faith-Based Hit Lifemark Extended in Theaters Another Week: It’s Bringing Hope to Many’
The Kendrick Brothers movie Lifemark has been extended in theaters one more week thanks to an impressive opening weekend that saw it land at No. 4 in the United States on its first night.
The movie opened on September 9 and was scheduled to end its theatrical run Thursday, September 15 but now will stay in theaters through September 22. A news release said it has the “potential for even more dates to be added.”
It is the latest movie from Alex and Stephen Kendrick, the faith-based filmmakers who also made such hits as War Room, Courageous and Fireproof.
The two-week stint in theaters is unusual for the film’s distributor, Fathom Events. Typically, Fathom films stay in theaters for one or two nights.
“The stories coming out of theaters this weekend are proof that this film is bringing hope to many,” said Alex Kendrick, who has an on-screen role in the film and also is an executive producer.
Based on true events, Lifemark tells the story of an 18-year-old high school student named David, who is contacted by his birth mom and presented with the opportunity to meet her face to face. With the support of his adoptive parents, David schedules the visit.
Actor Kirk Cameron plays the adoptive father.
“We are thankful this story of celebrating adoption was welcomed with open arms nationwide,” said Cameron, who also was an executive producer. “Despite the odds against a faith release such as this one, we appreciate this audience, who once again demonstrated their desire to see wholesome family entertainment.”
The film was No. 7 in gross over the weekend and No. 4 on its first night. It grossed about $3 million during its first week.
“We believed in this film so much that we created the opportunity to premiere it in theaters nationwide for a seven-day limited engagement so that audiences have more opportunities to see the film,” said Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events.
