‘Heaviest of battles’ lie ahead in Kherson, Ukraine says:

Kyiv is bracing for heavy fighting in Kherson as Russian troops dig in to defend the province in what could be the most consequential showdown of the eight-month war.

“The heaviest of battles for Kherson is ahead,” Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych told dissident Russian lawyer Mark Feygin on his YouTube show Tuesday.

“It is still difficult to talk about the prospects for its liberation, because they [the Russians] are doing everything to strengthen their grouping,” he continued, according to a CNN translation.

The city of Kherson — capital of the province of the same name — fell to Russian forces in the opening hours of the invasion in February. It remained the only major city under Russian control until the fall of Mariupol in May.

The province has long been the apparent centerpiece of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attempts to declare Ukraine a part of Russia, with occupation authorities in Kherson hinting as early as May at the shotgun annexation rolled out last month. —>READ MORE HERE

US Gives Ukraine Most Advanced Air Defense System To Date:

The United States has given Ukraine the most advanced anti-air defense systems to date, after President Biden in a phone call with Ukraine’s Volodymy Zelensky vowed to expedite shipments of NASAMS. Already Ukraine has been receiving the HIMARS – a 1990’s era light multiple rocket launcher, but Kiev has repeatedly asked for more sophisticated anti-air missiles, including from Israel.

Raytheon CEO Greg Hayes has confirmed in an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” that it delivered two of the NASAMS systems to the US government this month, which were subsequently transferred and are being set up for use by Ukrainian forces.

“We did just deliver two NASAMS systems… We delivered two of them to the government a couple of weeks ago. They’re being installed in Ukraine [imminently],” Hayes said.

“It is a short-range air defense system, and it can fire [an AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile] and it could knock down everything in the sky from drones to ballistic missiles to fighter jets,” the Raytheon CEO detailed. —>READ MORE HERE
