Vandals Deface Focus on the Family Office Sign following Club Q Shooting

On Thanksgiving Day, Vandals defaced the office sign of the Christian organization Focus on the Family, leaving behind a message blaming the ministry for the recent mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“Their blood is on your hands,” a spray-painted message read. “Five lives taken.”

As reported by CBN News, authorities noted that the vandals spray-painted the message sometime Thursday morning on the sign outside the Focus on the Family office in Colorado Springs.

The incident comes after a gunman opened fire at Club Q, an LGBTQ nightclub, on November 19, killing five people.

Focus on the Family’s Jim Daly told KCNC-TV that the group has mourned the response to the tragedy at Club Q and asserted that they do not permit or endorse hatred.

“I think in a pluralistic culture now, the idea is: How do we all live without treading on each other?” Daly said.

On Friday, Daly issued a statement confirming the defacing of the Focus on the Family’s office sign and called for prayer and healing instead of spreading hate.

“We recognize the community is hurting in the aftermath of the reckless and violent actions of a very disturbed individual,” he said, according to the Denver Post. “This is a time for prayer, grieving, and healing, not vandalism and the spreading of hate.”

He also shared that he is praying for the families of those affected by the shooting and encouraged others to do the same.

“We urge everyone to pray for peace, and we also pray for the individual or group responsible for this mischievous and unwarranted defacing of our ministry’s property,” Daly added.

On the same day as the incident, a Twitter account called  “Colorado Peoples Press” posted photos of the defacement as well as a statement published by the Front Rage Queer Community, who is believed to have been the ones responsible for the graffiti.

The group accuses Focus of the Family of perpetuating “incredible violence” against the LGBTQ community due to their stance on biblical marriage.

“It is no accident that this happened in Colorado Springs, a city steeped in homophobia, transphobia, and white supremacy,” the statement reads, in part. “It is no surprise that someone did this in the city that is home to such a hateful organization as Focus on the Family.”

The group also pointed to 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 (NIV) as support for their belief that Focus on the Family is an evil organization.

“And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.”

The incident remains under investigation, and none of the suspects involved have been identified.

“We went out there to investigate if there was a crime that took place,” Colorado Springs Police Department Sgt. Jason Ledbetter told The Gazette. “There is no suspect information at this time.”
