Jesus' Coming Back

Hobby Lobby Proclaims Gospel in Full-Page Christmas Ads: ‘For unto Us a Child Is Born’

Hobby Lobby is running full-page newspaper ads nationwide this Christmas season declaring the true meaning of the holiday with a Bible-centric message: “O’ come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.”

The ad depicts the Wise Men and their camels entering a city with a bright star shining overhead. It reads: “‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’ (Isaiah 9:6).”

Large letters on the ad quote the famous hymn: “O’ come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.”

The bottom of the ad includes information for the reader about salvation and obtaining a free digital Bible: “If you would like to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, visit Need Him Ministry at ChatAboutJesus.com.” Readers can obtain a free digital Bible at www.Mardel.com/Bible.

Hobby Lobby is owned by a Christian family, the Greens, and runs Christ-centric holiday newspaper ads three times a year: Christmas, Easter and Independence Day. The tradition dates back to Christmas 1995 when founder David Green was reading Christmas advertisements, including those for his own store, and “felt commissioned by God to do something different.”

“Hobby Lobby was selling all kinds of crafts that customers used to celebrate Christmas, yet David Green was struck by the lack of any testimony in newspapers regarding the meaning of the holiday,” Hobby Lobby’s website says.

Green ran Hobby Lobby’s first Bible-focused holiday ad in 1996. It read: “As you celebrate this Christmas season in the warmth of family and home, may you be drawn to the Savior; He who left the beauty of Heaven on our behalf and became like us, that we might become like Him. If you know Jesus as your Savior, then this season already has a special meaning. If you do not, we encourage you to find a Bible-believing church in your community and to discover a relationship this Christmas with the God who loves you more than you can begin to imagine.”

The full-page ads celebrate the “real meaning of Christmas, Easter and Independence Day in newspapers across the country,” the company says.
