Putin Declares That Ukrainians Living Under Russian Control Can Now Apply For Russian Citizenship

Russia’s President Putin has now approved that Ukrainians living under Russian control can apply for Russian citizenship. This only applies to Ukrainians living in the People’s Republics of Luhansk and Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson, all of which Russia has declared as part of the Russian Federation. As we read in Kommersant:

Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the procedure for applying for a Russian passport by residents of new subjects of the Russian Federation. The document also spelled out a provision on recognizing a child under the age of 14 as a citizen of Russia. In addition, the presidential decree approves the procedure for filing and recording applications for unwillingness to be a citizen of Ukraine. The document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The application must be submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or its territorial body. When applying, you must provide a document certifying the citizenship of a citizen of the DPR, LPR or Ukraine and a document with registration at the place of residence in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. An application for a child under the age of 14 is submitted by his parent or guardian. The term for issuing a new passport should not exceed 10 days.
