Democrats Refuse To Cheer Martin Luther King Jr. On House Floor
House Democrats couldn’t bring themselves to applaud Martin Luther King Jr. on Wednesday.
As House Republicans failed to elect a new speaker after several votes, Texas Republican Chip Roy nominated Byron Donalds of Florida.
Roy began the nomination — which challenges Kevin McCarthy, the outgoing GOP minority leader, for the top position in the House — by highlighting Donalds’s race as Democrats nominate New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.
“Now here we are, and for the first time in history there have been two black Americans placed into the nomination for speaker of the House,” Roy said ahead of the fourth vote.
The proclamation was met with roaring applause and a standing ovation as lawmakers on each end of the chamber celebrated the racial milestone 158 years after the end of American slavery.
“However,” Roy continued, “we do not seek to judge people by the color of their skin but rather the content of their character.”
Republicans stood again to cheer the mantra, which was popularized by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. just two miles west on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. But most Democrats across the aisle, captivated by a form of identity politics that is obsessed with skin color, remained seated with their arms crossed.
The juxtaposition between the two parties says everything about the state of American race relations today.
Democrats couldn’t celebrate the famous line from the 20th-century civil rights icon because color blindness is no virtue in the church of wokeness, the new secular religion to take over the Democratic Party.
Just one example of the lens by which Democrats see skin color entered American households in December when a pair of popular left-wing racists went on “Dr. Phil” to accuse white women of inherent racism.
Saira Rao and Regina Jackson Turner, who are famous for charging white women $2,500 each for a dinner at which guests are told how they’re white supremacists, went on the daytime program to promote their new documentary “Deconstructing Karen.”
When a white woman seated next to Dr. Phillip McGraw refused to capitulate to Rao and Jackson’s accusation of racism, instead insisting “I’m not racist,” Rao cut her off.
“Yes, you are,” Rao shouted over the alleged white oppressor. “Yes, you absolutely are. If you don’t see race, then you don’t see racism, and then you uphold racism.”
In the pair’s documentary, Rao extrapolated the point further. A dinner guest named Marni described how she sees the world, indifferent to race.
“It doesn’t faze me at all,” Marni says. “When we all bleed, we bleed red.”
“I’m just going to drop the bomb here, that’s white supremacy,” Rao said in response. “Colorblindness is white supremacy. Do not teach your kids to be colorblind.”
This is the prevailing worldview among woke activists that has crept into the mainstream of the Democratic Party, and Roy put on full display Wednesday just how entrenched the perspective is among Democrats in the lower chamber.
