50th Annual March for Life Sets U.S. Capitol as its Destination
The 50th annual March for Life will take place in the nation’s capital next month. At this year’s event, marchers will walk toward the U.S. Capitol building instead of the U.S. Supreme Court building as had been tradition. It is also the first March for Life event to happen since the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade last year.
“The March for Life began as a reaction to Roe v. Wade,” Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, told CBN News.
Over the years, the pro-life march has become the world’s largest and longest-running human rights demonstration.
“I believe that people marching over the years played a large role in the ultimate overturn of Roe,” Mancini said. “I’ve heard from Supreme Court clerks that being in the court on that day, the March for Life day, every year was a very powerful experience.”
While attendees typically march to the Supreme Court building every year, 2023’s demonstration will head from the National Mall in Washington D.C. towards the U.S. Capitol.
“The pro-life generation will be out in full force this year,” Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins told CBN News. “They’ll be holding the black and white ‘We Are the Post Roe Generation’ signs as we pass them out. We’ll be giving out, I know, at least 15,000 signs.”
Mancini also shared that more pro-life marches will be held this year in more states.
“A number of years ago, we began a state march initiative as well, so no less than a week and a half (after the D.C. March), we’ll be in Virginia at the state capitol marching for life there at the fifth annual march, and we plan to double the number of state marches this year to be in ten states,” Mancini said.
The pro-life leader shared that the organization’s goal is to be in all 50 states in the next five to seven years.
This year’s March for Life will be held on Jan. 20 and will feature speakers, including pro-football hall of famer Tony Dungy and actor Jonathan Roumie, best known for his role as Jesus Christ in The Chosen, among others.
