Kirk Cameron to Continue Library Readings: ‘We Are in a Battle for the Hearts’ of Children
Actor and author Kirk Cameron says he will continue to hold book readings at public libraries nationwide as a way to “stand up” for biblical values and represent members of the faith community who feel silenced.
Cameron recently held book readings at two libraries – Indianapolis Public Library in Indiana, and Scarsdale Public Library in Scarsdale, New York – where he read his new children’s book, As You Grow, which follows the growth of an oak tree and teaches kids about the fruit of the spirit.
Cameron and his publisher, Brave Books, say they want to “win back story hour” at public libraries, which in recent years have been embroiled in controversies over drag queen book readings.
An estimated 1,000 people attended the Indianapolis event, although most were unable to enter the room with Cameron due to limited space, according to ChurchLeaders.com.
“So now I’m going to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta” and other cities, Cameron told Fox News Digital, “where people are crying out for someone to push back and stand up and bring the kinds of values that made this country free and led to its blessings.”
The faith community, Cameron said, is hungry for someone to stand up for their beliefs.
“Many people are looking for some way to be represented,” Cameron said. “They’re looking for some way to let their voices be heard and show what they stand for.. … [T]hey see this opportunity as an opportunity to be part of something that they believe could turn the country around.”
There are “millions of Christians, parents, patriots and concerned Americans who realize that we are in a battle for the hearts and minds of our children.”
“And we are going to take them back one story hour at a time – if that’s what it takes,” Cameron said.
Brave Books launched a website where the faith community can get updates on future Brave Books Story Hours. The website also provides information on hosting a story hour.
“It takes courage to stand up for truth and to do so publicly,” the website says. “We are here to support and help you BE BRAVE.”
