Damar Hamlin Is Discharged from the Hospital
Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin is heading home from the hospital after receiving care for over a week following a cardiac episode.
Hamlin collapsed on the football field after tackling Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals in a game on January 2. Trainers and medical staff immediately went to work and were able to restart his heart.
“We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills,” Dr. Jamie Nadler, the chief quality officer at Buffalo General, said in a statement, according to ABC News.
Hamlin tweeted earlier this week about his team playing New England, but he also added that he believed God was at work.
“GameDay … Nothing I Want More Than to Be Running Out That Tunnel With My Brothers,” Hamlin tweeted. “God Using Me in a Different Way Today. Tell Someone You Love Them Today!”
Later in the game, the Bills returned an opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. Remarkably, it had been three years and three months since the Bills’ last kickoff return for a touchdown. Hamlin also wears the number “3.”
Tweeted Hamlin, “God Behind All This No Coincidence.”
Previously, Hamlin has talked about his faith in public. According to Central Catholic in Indiana, the church said he has been “an integral part of our Catholic Lasallian Community and regularly returns to Central to speak with participants of our football campus.”
The school’s recently retired head football coach also told reporters that Hamlin is a “great athlete and a great Christian gentleman who is a man for others.”
In 2020, Hamlin wrote on Twitter that he thanked God for “lessons” and “blessings.” He also said he sees himself “through God’s eyes, not anyone else’s.”
