Dog walker mauled to death by her own pack…
Been involved in such a pack effect – and blame myself, as I had picked up a smaller dog during a walk and when I put him on the ground, he growled at another male, who had evidently given an unseen warning, and the entire pack went after the terrier. Doing as much as I could to break it up was totally unsuccessful and I should be glad, (perhaps because they were all my dogs), they chose not to turn on me – which i suspect was what happened to this poor dogwalker. It remains a painful sensory memory to this day. But from that I learned more about dog psychology and how people can, and do, often, unwittingly, cause these attacks. It saddens me when dogs, behaving as dogs, agitated by humans treating them like people, then find themselves in the pound on the death list.
OTOH, there are fighting dogs, bred to kill and maim, and which often, even when given every possible retraining, cannot be rehabilitated. Their owners and trainers ought to be put in the pound on the death list.
