Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Leads Team to Super Bowl Victory

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led his team to a last-minute 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

According to CBN News, the Chiefs secured the win when kicker Harrison Butker successfully kicked a field goal late in the fourth quarter. This came after Mahomes kept the Chief’s drive going by rushing for 26 yards toward the endzone despite suffering from a reaggravated high-ankle sprain.

“That’s our quarterback,” The Kansas Chiefs tweeted concerning Mahomes.

As reported by Sports Spectrum, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker hit the game-winning kick Sunday night with just 8 seconds left.

“You just got to go out and focus on what you can control,” Butker, a professing Catholic, said in his postgame press conference. “I kind of had the easy job there. Offensive line did a great job blocking, great snap, great hold, and thankfully the ball went through, and all glory to God.”

After the game, Mahomes was named the MVP, finishing with 182 passing yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and 44 rushing yards.

Mahomes had previously pulled off a similar move during the AFC Championship game last month that propelled them to the Super Bowl. At the time, he thanked God for healing his ankle to help him win the game.

“I want to thank God, man,” the quarterback told CBS in a postgame interview.

“He healed my body this week to battle through that,” he added. “He gave me the strength to be out here.”

During an interview with Faith and Sports Programming Network (FSPN), Mahomes shared how much his faith in God matters to him.

“My faith has always been a big part of what I do… I’ve grown up in church, and faith really helps you know why you’re playing the game, and who you’re doing it for,” he said.

But Mahomes isn’t the only person on his team praising God. After winning the AFC Championship last month, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt also attributed the victory to the Lord.

“The Lord has blessed our family in so many ways, including with the best fan base…” he said.

With last night’s victory, the Kansas City Chiefs are now 2-time Super Bowl champions. They previously took home the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2019 when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV with a score of 31-20.
