Anne Graham Lotz: Asbury Revival Could Be the ‘Latter Rain’ Before Jesus’ Return
Author and evangelist Anne Graham Lotz says the Asbury revival could be a sign of Jesus’ return and that she is praying for revival within the hearts of God’s people.
Lotz, a bestselling author and the daughter of the late Billy Graham, raised the possibility in a new blog while quoting James 5:7.
“Therefore, be patient … until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain,” Lotz wrote, quoting the verse.
Lotz said the passage could help answer the question that many are asking: What is going on at Asbury?
The revival at the Wilmore, Ky., school began on Feb. 8 and has not stopped, running consecutively for more than 300 hours.
Lotz quoted her husband’s nephew, Dr. John-Paul Lotz, who she said was sent by Regent University to observe the revival.
“John-Paul texted me with this description: There was ‘no leader, no rival, no envy, no pride, all humility, meekness, gentle hearts, stumbling sinners, tender students serving thousands of curious visitors in their love for mercy without knowing they are doing so! It is legit. GenZ write-offs are graciously allowing us to peek in on this surprising work of God as they serve us like priests, unconsciously dragging us into the presence of the Lord through young, redeemed, romantic hearts for God. Christ is being honored, God is being glorified, the Spirit is at liberty. The real awkward cringe-worthy gawkers are the over forty’s like myself who can’t put down their phones. The Z’s left theirs at home….”
Lotz added, in her own words, “Could what John-Paul observed be the beginning of the ‘latter rain’? An outpouring of God’s Spirit in one last great awakening before Jesus returns? Lord God, let it be so…for the glory of Your great name, for the salvation of our nation, for the revival of Your people.”
At least 20,000 people attended the revival over the weekend. The population of Wilmore is only 6,000. Asbury on Monday concluded the public portion of the revival and said services “available to the public will be held at another location in the central Kentucky area.” The school also said limited portions of the revival will be streamed at Asbury.edu/outpouring.
