Candace Cameron Bure: Great American Family Is ‘Unashamed’ to Share Jesus on Cable TV

Filmmaker and actress Candace Cameron Bure says in a new post that her new network Great American Family is “unashamed” to broadcast faith-based content and that it was one reason her movie A Christmas … Present won two MovieGuide awards.

The film, released during the Christmas season last year, won a MovieGuide award for Best Family Television, while Bure herself won a MovieGuide Grace Award for Most Inspiring Performance in TV. The MovieGuide Awards were broadcast on UPtv. The film was produced by Bure’s company, Candy Rock Entertainment, and debuted on Great American Family.

“Guys – I’m pretty darn excited for my company,” Bure wrote, noting it was their “first movie out of the gate.”

She thanked the crew behind the movie. She also thanked Bill Abbott, the president and CEO of Great American Family, which launched in 2021 as a rival of Hallmark. Abbott is a former Hallmark executive.

“Massive thank you to @billabbotthc and @gactv for being unashamed to share scripture and the name of Jesus on cable television and for your dedication to faith and family entertainment,” Bure wrote. “… My heart is full of gratitude and love.”

A Christmas…Present was one of 18 original Christmas films on Great American Family last year. Bure left Hallmark in 2022 to join Great American Family.

Last year, Bure said she wanted to make movies “that have depth and purpose and meaning that can actually change someone’s life.” A Christmas … Present tells the story of a married couple who has grown apart. It also focuses on the story of a widower and his young daughter.

Abbott said last year he wanted Great American Family to “be relentlessly family-friendly.”

“We want to be the leader in family television,” Abbott said. “… We think that we’ve got assembled a terrific team not only at our networks, but also [on] the talent side — people who are well-known to the audience and who the audience loves.”
