Louisiana Tent Revival Enters Its 19th Week: ‘It’s Only Gaining Momentum’

A revival in the Hammond, Louisiana area that began as a four-day revival has entered into its 19th week.

According to CBN News, Old Zion Baptist Church, located northwest of Hammond on Highway 442, began the service on October 16. At the time, evangelist David R. Harrison of Voice of Hope Ministries set up a large tent with seats for up to 2,500 people.

On the first night of the revival, 125 people were in attendance, and 34 people professed faith in the Lord. Since then, there have been over 1,300 professions of faith made.

Brian Lester, Harrison’s assistant, told CBN News that the services are continuing to grow.

“It’s only gaining momentum,” he told the outlet in an email.

Lester noted that the recent revival at Asbury University, a Christian school in Wilmore, Kentucky, has prompted people to want to experience revival locally.

“Since Asbury, the hunger has grown even more in this area to see revival. We’ve never seen anything like it,” he told CBN News. “We believe what happened at Asbury and is happening in LA needs to spread over the entire nation.”

Last month, students at Asbury University broke out in spontaneous worship and prayer on February 8. The outpouring at Asbury made national headlines and drew in people from across the nation. As Christian Headlines previously reported, the school ended the revival on February 23 after it grew too large. The revival concluded on National Collegiate Day of Prayer.

Hammond, Louisiana revival, however, is ongoing. So far, an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 people have attended.

The prayer services are held inside the tent at 6:30 every Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, full worship services take place on Thursdays and Fridays.

According to the Voice of Hope Ministries website, the ministry has seen a total of 117,936 salvations so far since its inception in 2016.
