Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Blessing Deploy Teams to Mississippi, Alabama following Deadly Tornadoes
Christian humanitarian aid organizations Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Blessing have deployed relief teams to Mississippi and Alabama following a series of deadly tornadoes.
As reported by The Christian Post, multiple tornadoes swept across Mississippi and northern Alabama Friday night amid powerful thunderstorms. At least 25 people died in Mississippi, and at least one person died in Alabama.
At the time, Mississippi was hit by 80-mph winds and hail the size of golf balls, The Washington Post reports.
Samaritan’s Purse, led by evangelist Franklin Graham, sent two U.S. Disaster Relief units – tractor-trailers packed with relief supplies and equipment – to Rolling Fork and Armory in Mississippi.
The organization will also work alongside local churches and deploy volunteer teams from there as of Monday.
“Volunteers are scheduled to begin work Monday, March 27. Teams will help in Jesus’ Name tarping damaged roofs, cutting up fallen or damaged trees, and clearing debris from yards and homes,” Samaritan’s Purse said.
Billy Graham Chaplains have also been deployed to provide spiritual and emotional comfort to local communities.
According to CBN News, Operation Blessing has also launched relief efforts in response to the deadly tornadoes. The organization, founded by the late televangelist Pat Robertson, has sent a relief package with food, water, and other disaster recovery items to people impacted by the natural disaster.
On Sunday, President Joe Biden issued a disaster declaration for Mississippi, calling for federal aid to support ongoing recovery efforts.
